In the Moment
The space between the chair
I, like many people have ideas and thoughts that pop into my head. I have decided to write down (the ones that are publishable and legal), so I don’t forget them and they may be of assistance to you.
I have been wrestling with ways in which to look at situations from a different perspective and listening to “Creativity, Inc.” by Ed Catmull gave me another option to use. The technique he describes used to teach people to learn the skill of drawing.
Imagine trying to draw a chair; your brain has given you a picture of a chair (mine is a wooden one with spindles). There is the problem we already have a contract in our head of what a chair is and our brain will try to deliver that construct, in my case badly.
Don’t draw the chair but the spaces between the chair, focus on those and not the chair. You have never looked at this before in all likeliness, so doesn’t have a preconceived idea of these spaces and you will see the challenge from a different perspective.
Look at challenges you face, not directly at the problem but the areas around the issue.
