I, like many people have ideas and thoughts that pop into my head.
I have decided to write down (the ones that are publishable and legal), so I don’t forget them and they may be of assistance to you.
The structure of how much of the western world today is based on the thoughts of the Greek philosopher Plato. My basic understanding of this is that the world and organisations have two functions planning and execution.
What has happened with this since the industrial revolution is the creation of two distinct roles: Thinkers and Doers. In businesses these are often renamed as manager/leaders – employees/workers. Traditionally these two ‘groups’ are paid differently (salary or wages).
In families, traditionally the thinkers are parents and the doers are children.
I have experienced in numerous organisations the reality of a job title dictating the amount of freedom to think of new ways of doing things.
How many problems are caused by the belief that leaders do the thinking and workers execute the thought?
I, as a father of five find myself re-evaluating my role and the amount of time I have spent planning and thinking.
