The Horseless Carriage
I, like many people have ideas and thoughts that pop into my head.
I have decided to write down (the ones that are publishable and legal), so I don’t forget them and they may be of assistance to you.
When there is a significant change (technology, cultural or pandemic), something called a paradigm shift happens. The rules that used to apply no longer apply and people have to find an alternative way to deal with this.
to find a new way to deal with this.
The shift provides opportunities and challenges in equal measure, often the first attempts as merely an adaptation of the old way of doing things. When the combustion engine offered a viable alternative and horses were no longer the main transport driver, the first attempts were adaptations of carriages, before the development and establishment of the new the rule for cars.
I have been developing virtual learning programmes as part of my business evolvement. I have to say I am seeing lots of horseless carriages that people believe is all you need to do. Just because it is easy to have a group of people in a virtual conference, it doesn’t mean you can transfer over what we used to do to the real world.
Eight hours with a small tv picture of a facilitator, PowerPoint, workbooks, and the occasional breakout room is only applying an old way of doing things to a new different environment and doesn’t work!
We need to make sure we design something that is fit for purpose and a horseless carriage.
