In the Moment
It isn’t painting by numbers
I, like many people have ideas and thoughts that pop into my head.
I have decided to write down (the ones that are publishable and legal), so I don’t forget them and they may be of assistance to you.
I love a good model, when it comes to leadership, communication etc. They help give different ways of looking at the challenges I face and some clues as to how I might solve them. But, they are not the answer only an option to consider on the way to finding a solution.
If I wanted to paint the Mona Lisa I could use a painting by numbers kit. I would have everything I need (canvas, paints, brushes and a laid-out plan) but I will only ever end up with a facsimile of the original. I will not end up with the Mona Lisa.
The missing element was the intent when Micheal Angelo painted the picture; his intent was to create an image of the Mona Lisa as he saw and felt it. My intent is to get a copy of that picture, and for that reason alone it will never be the same, regardless of my abilities.
So when it comes to adopting new models, methods and policies clarity of intent will always impact the result. If it is to copy ‘best practise’ I end up with a facsimile with no depth. I should start with a clean canvas and use other ideas to inform me but create my picture in line with my intent.
